Looking for a spare sled and maybe a project sled. Found a 2001 srx 700 with 6000 miles for $1200, but the guy told me I could test drive it but for that price he is not going to stand around while somebody does a compression test or check a powervalve then told me he overpaid 1600 and he would take 1100. Am I asking to much at this price point? should I expect nothing more then ride it cross my fingers and throw it on the trailer? wwtyd what would totally yamaha do?

No compression check? He's such a busy man with no time for a 10 minute compression check? Lol. I compression check even $150 sled. Engine work big $$. You can buy a clean SRX with lots of goodies for less than $2,500. It might be a good parts sled, though.

You mean a one minute compression check. Sounds shady to me. Don't be impulsive there's always a deal out there.

I would spend the extra to get one that has been taken care of. More than likely this sled has not been taken care of and the little sh!t adds up too. I paid $1800 for my 99 when I got it and I can tell you I paid way too much for it considering I probably have twice as much as it is worth in it. That is with a few upgrades but I have a lot in doing the maintenance that hasn't been done over the years. If it is close to you it might be worth it to go look at it and see if it pulls rpm and then offer him less since he wont let you do a compression check. Could be worth a chance if it pulls rpm. You could easily part it and make money if you had to. Just my .02 cents.

Take someone with you. You can be looking at the underside while the other guy does the compression check. What's he going to do. I mean ..... Really.

Sounds fishy. Offer him $500. Then when he tells you your crazy you tell him he's crazy for not letting you compression test it. You could be as stated before buying a parts sled with out checking it.

you mean he won,t let ya take a psi test, tell ya what to do, pull spark plugs, stick your thumb over plug hole, have him pull the rope. lol, he might be trying to hide something. 3:16x.

Trailing arms been replaced, some stress in the plastics. Could of been rolled or hit something. Otherwise doesnt look awful. I would go ride it and see how it runs.

I wouldn't even think about buying it if he won't let you do a compression test. There are some nice SRX's on CL right now if you're willing to spend a little more.

Thats the one, I considered that route but he was so hung up on not spending the time while I look at it that I wondered wtf then he said he was a mechanic and has owned about 15 of these srx's over the years. REEEAAALLLY woulndt a mechanic know I could check compression and pull a power valve in what 20 minutes tops? Then he stated how much of a beater it is, and thats what it is, take it or leave it.
