2002 viper carb needle jet height.
I read in one of your posts that you recommend raising the needles can you give me an idea as to where you recommend they be set? I have two new to me 02 vipers. Both of them are completely stock, no mods. Myself and my wife both are not aggressive riders . We like to do a lot of touring . Overnight trips etc. Commonly riding groomed trails at an average of 30-50 mph.
Thanks

Here is his write up! Read through entire thread and explains where to set them up at. I run 4th groove both washers on top for all my Vipers. We are cruisers also!

Thanks for the advice . I was looking for a starting point. I ended up changing the clip to position 4 with one washer above and one below. I am thinking this is 3.5. I will ride it like this and see how it is . If I find it too rich in the mid range I will go to both above and try that. One more question, I am a bit confused as to the amount of difference in needle height and the washer positions.

After looking at this diagram it would seem the two .4 mm washers that are under the clip account for half a clip groove each. The example in the post shows
clip in 3rd groove and two washers below = 3
clip in third groove and only one washer below one above = 2.5
Would it not stand to reason two washers above would bring you right back to position 3 if your clip was installed in the 4th groove?

Without the chart in front of me its never clear either. But I know the same thought has been brought up before and it always works out to be 4 groove both on top is 3.25. One on top and bottom 3.5. And so forth.

ok thanks for the reply . I guess that sort of makes sense if the washers thickness is not exactly one half the distance between grooves. This would mean the .5 differrence they talk about is just sort of an expression and not actually .5 of a clip groove.

Think of that needle as a cork. The farther it is allowed to go down(into the bottle, aka carb), the less fluid(wine, aka gas) will be able to come out. This is how I keep it straight in my head.
