I have been having problems with my 01 sxr 700 for a couole of years now for some reason my rpms very ever time i hit the throttle...it get stuck at about 7500 to 7800 rpms..ive had the local yamaha dealer go through both clutch and align them and clean the carbs...one thing i noticed is when i tighten up the belt to the point where is make it crawl at idle is when i have the least problems..also if i run a gates belt instead of the yamaha it performs beter...anyone have any more suggestions on this issue??when the sled hits 8200 or so rpms it rips!! But it is very frustrating when it doesnt hit that rpm consitantly... Thanks...

its likely the primary spring and the belt compounds, spring is tired, if its the original one its now 15 yrs old.....

what Yamaha belt number were you using? also what is the rear helix twist set at?

Not sure what number the belt is and i have the secondary set at 70 twist...the belt is the only one my yamaha dealer lists for my sled..

I took it for a ride lastnight and when holding a steady speed of 70 it also starts to lose rpms untill i let off to about 60 and hit it again then it will go again..so frustrating....

you cant go out and look at the number on the belt and relay what it says???

Sorry no i am currently out of town i will be going back home tomorrow and i can look and see what it says...and it has 8400 miles on it...

had a similar problem on my 2000 sxr 700.it turned out that the weights were worn.the weights actually had a spot on them that was worn down in the 7000 rpm range.heres a pic.aaen 001.jpgi have a set with 100 miles on them if you are interested.
