Hello all. I am fairly certain that the oil pump on the vmax has failed. Is there a way to make sure that it is the problem before dropping 400 bucks on a new one? Also is there any Canadian parts suppliers that would have a pump at a reasonable price? Thanks.

if you have the cable set to as lean as you should go and you're still using more oil then yes your pump will need replacing. you might want to check to make sure your cable is not binding under the carbs as well just in case.
unfortunately they're not cheap but then again you can't really ride without it and i personally wouldn't buy a used one but that's up to you. I've replaced the pumps on both our 2 strokes over the past year, the SRX (pump was cheaper for it then the red head) and our vmax 700. The red head pump was $340 from our dealer this past fall. you can search the US sites and then see if it's worth getting one from there. If you're close to the US border you might get it cheaper having it shipped to the border town and then go pick it up. There not bad to change, i did it with the motor in the sleds and just removing the exhaust & manifolds, motor mounts and then lifting it up on a block of wood just high enough to reach the 2 allen head bolts.
make sure you get the o-ring with it.

The cables seem fine and within spec. I kind of figured there wouldnt be a way around the price, but its always worth checking. I will make sure the O-ring is there. At 400 bucks it should be able to install itself. Thanks.
