Had my Son's 2002 Viper on a 4 day trip last weekend in the UP and the last day it would not go over 60 MPH. It just Babbles @ 60 MPH. I just went through the carbs before we left. It there possibly a problem with the Power Valves sticking? When we changed the plugs #1 looked darker (Black) compared to #2 & #3 and there appeared to be vapors coming out of the spark plug hole of #1. Any help would be appreciated. It might be time for another Apex.
Thanks,

compression, that is a lot of speed to lose, you may have a missing piston skirt or hole in your piston. Even with three power valves not open, would go faster than 60.

Does that thing have a "limp" mode if it senses there is a problem?

I don't think it has a limp mode, and if did would it Limp Mode to 60 MPH? I did disconnect the TPS and tried it, no change. I have a SXR 700 that gave me fits with the TPS and I bypassed it 7 years ago and it has run Great ever since.

Yes. Being a Master Certified ASE Automotive Technician since 1974 anything related to Throttle position to me is a TPS: Throttle Position Sensor. I did not know Yamaha called it TORS. Thank You for Educating me. I still believe due to the fact it was 45 degrees, my issue is temperature related more than anything else. We pulled it out of the trailer today and hanging on a Rack it pulls like crazy to 8,000 RPM's. Any Input? This Sle NEVER liked Warm Weather.

Tors is a throttle overide system. A safety feature incorporated into your cdi. It stops the engine from revving high enough to engage the clutches ...3000 or so.
