I was wondering what about these sleds are going for and if i do go check it out what to look for. Heres the info i have so far. All stock, its a 2nd owner, 1100 miles, owned for 1 1/2 years, put new wear bars and hi-fax on when purchased and hasn't touched it sense. asking 1650$ He says it starts first pull and run great. i just dont know much about these. I own a SX Viper just looking for something smaller/lighter. Wondering your all opinions on this SXR and there over all performance. Update: got him to send me more detailed pics

They are a fun little sled. They chew up gas and oil. About 10-13 miles per gallon. About 1 jug of oil every 3rd fill up. This was my wife's first sled was a 99 500. She likes it a lot. Things to look at would be the water pump belt. You can see what kind of shape it is in from the inspection hole on the throttle side of the sled. With that low of miles should not be a issue. Check the track for rot. Compression. Sled looks clean. I'd offer $1300ish.

They can be easily modded to suprise the sh!t out of ya. I picked one up 1.5 yrs ago for $1100 in same condition. Pull the trigger. Don't worry about the gas and oil consumption until they stop making either.

i had one of those. a good tough sled that i ran the wee out of at times keeping up to 600-700cc sleds. as it is an 01 (same one i had) it is geared differently that the 99 sxr 500. in stock form it tops out at 80 mph and got 8 mpg. when i changed the gearing to the 1999 specs, it hit over 90 mph with vmaxjhons 500cc clutching from the tec pages and got 9-10mpg. did the clutching with stock gearing and it did help a bit but it really needed the gearing. wish i still had that little bugger some days as it was fun to drive.

We have had a 98 500 xtc since new. Over 10,000 miles on it now. Almost no problems in all these years. It is essentially the same sled with a few extra options. Only complaint is poor mpg. 10 mpg is something that can happen if all in the world is perfect (hardpack....). 7 to 8 mpg is more common. I have seen 6 mpg more times than I would like. Tried many different setup. Similar results. They do like to wind out well on a low resistance surface. I have seen as high as 103 mph on the speedo in perfect conditions. Probably about 93 mph real world.
