Got a chance to pick up a xtra 10 rear from a 99 xc 500. Is it worth it? How much of an improvement will I see if a plush ride is most important to me.?
Also it has fox shocks and the front shock is toast. What exactly is the model of fox shock i need to find and is it gunna be pricey? I can pick up the skid for bout $100
Also are there sites that will walk me through putting that 10 in my 98 srx 700"

I own a 99 polaris with a 136 xtra 10 and I am not overly impressed with it. The ride is quite stiff and I don't like the torsion springs for adjusting ride height. Soft and I will sag the machine through 2/3 travel medium and I sag it 1-2" like it should but it won't extend to full ride height unloaded. Stiff it sits at full extended unloaded but the problem is that it is so stiff it won't sag with me on it either. Don't believe the bs about a pro action being heavy, the xtra 10 is heeeaaavvvyy. If you can find a skid from a viper or a vmax xtc it will have more travel, bolt right in and weigh less. If you can find a viper one or viper shocks they are aluminum bodied and rebuildable with infinate preload adjustment.
I agree with Backwoods, if you get your shocks rebuilt, and set it up correctly, the Pro Action isn't as bad as what you hear. No, it's NOT going to ride like a newer sled, but it isn't a " box of rocks" either. My wife rides a 99 XC and I just rebuilt her shocks and what a difference it makes. Shock maintenance is very important, well sled maintenance is very important.
I've got just under 16,000 miles on my SRX and every time I think about swapping in another skid, I lose ambition and end up getting the shocks rebuilt. And every time, it makes the sled handle and ride much better than before. Shocks degrade slowly, so you don't really feel them going bad.

So HMMMM what to do? I need a very kushy ride period. Not looking to spend the $1500 Canadian for a M-10, but theres got to be a spectacular riding 121 rear susp that will fit in my 98 srx 700 with little effort. What about any newer gen of the extra 10? SC 10 maybe? Any Arctic cat rear suspension swaps out there? I need comfort more than anything.
The wife's 2000 srx 700 has the rear Ohliins as well. Would swapping them into my pro action be a significant increase in ride?

The the srx is not knows for being a cushy trail cruiser. An upgrade to a viper may be what you need. You can get a long travel skid like we talked about earlier (you have a short travel skid. A viper or any long travel vmax is 11.5") and then long travel the front end by changing shocks, radius rods and tie rods or sell it and upgrade to something that is more of a trail cruiser. The long travel pro action front suspension is 9" which is pretty close to contemporary trail sleds. A skid swap from another brand requires precise measurements of the drive axle center line drop from the top of the tunnel then the drop, set back and center to center spacing of the skid as it sits in the donor sled. These measurements all need to be transferred into your sled with great precision to make sure the skid will still work properly. It is not for the faint of heart if you lack mechanical aptitude or someone who has done it before that can help you.

I would consider a much newer skid. Some can be found for about $300 which is what you will spend to freshen the shocks and replace bushings etc. All of the newer skids ride way better than either the Pro-Action or the Xtra-10 or Xtra-12.

Ive seen a few SRX running around with a Polaris edge skid, they can be had for 200-300 all day long. It would be a much better choice then the xtra 10
