Yep. very common to see wear or flaking (corrosion) on 25 year old + sleds. Exciter carbs on a Phazer Im guessing? :)

Yes in fact, those are exciter carbs on a phazer. But now I have a bigger issue. It runs quite lean on PTO side, it is not the carbs, I swapped them from side to side and the problem stayed on the same side. I thought it could be the crank seal but usually from my experience, when they go they leak oil and it does not seem to be the case. I sprayed carb cleaner on boots and did not notice any change in RPM

I guess I will be pulling the engine tonight to inspect it. Anyone know it you can pull the clutch as on a bombardier, with the clutch bolt, teflon tape and water?
 
could this scoring on carb slides be enough to make them stick. I have a sticking carb problem. I guess for now I will put the original carbs back
 
Most likely not. Check the cable junction (tube) where the cable splits. It may have some hardend grease in it. Clean it out with a water based degreaser and lube it with something like fluid film that doesnt have any solvents. I damaged a cable once using something like Liquid wrench to lube it so now im very careful what I use to lube them.
On a side note, I have had slides get sticky (freeze up) when running in cold temps when the motor wasnt warmed up. This would be amplified if you werent running an air box.
