I have never bottomed mine out to point were the studs hit the heat exchanger, even with the stock settings.
1) Where are your running the spring on your rear shock? The spring preload was increased over stock in a service bulletin shortly after these sleds came out because of bottoming.
2) When was the last time the rear shock was serviced? I had mine revalved many years ago that helped the ride and stopped the bottoming out. I rebuild them myself every few years to keep them fresh.
I'm still running the skid in the Stock holes too.

And the ones on my wifes 95 with the standard skid:
