We have 2 1998 600 xtc deluxe and for what we do we love them.I'm looking to upgrade a bit in the power department and to have an extra sled.Central WI trails woods and occasional open burst across a field.I do ride fairly aggressive.I would like to stay in the 98-02 range for price.Looking for electric start and reverse.I see both these models with the same options and what I think is the same 700 powerplant and suspension. Is there a difference between the two or was it just a change in color scheme and a new name?Is one a better sled and performs better on the trails?I don't see much info on the 2002 vmax 700.I could use some input as I'm a bit confused.
Under the hood there's no difference other than the VMAX XTC came stock with elec start and reverse. the front shocks on the VMAX also had a higher mounting point on the front shocks for xtra travel where the SX had a stiffer/sportier ride. Honestly I think the VMAX handles just as light/flat with a "plusher" ride. Big improvement in power over your 600 twin but the 600 triple vmax or sxr is a good choice too! the 700 just does it a little better.

The vmax sx would probably be the fastest of them since it has the short travel suspension and it will corner better because it's lower to the ground. The other vmax's have the long travel suspension and so does the SXR. They are all good machines and are pretty much the same sleds, same engines, chassis etc, the biggest difference is long travel vs sort travel suspensions. The older sxrs and vmax's had the single bulb headlight, the newer ones had the dual bulb lights. I have a 97 vmax sx and my buddy has a 2000 sxr, mine is a little smother riding and a little faster but the sxr takes the big bumps a little better. They are all good sleds, I think you'd be happy with any one of them.

From what I was gathering from research I figured the Vmax and the SXr were pretty much the same in 00-02.Thanks I guess I will look at whatever I find with lowest miles.

1. Are you ready to buy now?
2. What's you price range?
3. Do you want to travel just within Wisconson to get it? Or just between Madison & Green Bayish area?
I have lots of time on my hands and like surfing the web.

The sxr will probably be a better performer than the vmax because of the clutching. I think a lot of those vmax's had the non rebuildable shocks, sxr's came with rebuildable shocks.
Ok thank you.Looking to buy sometime, doesn't have to be today.Around 2 K but I see that covers most sleds in this age group.Just taking my time to look around.I was thinking of that 98 xtc that matches ours but also hunting for lower miles if possible.Ofcoarse I'm looking for a clean not abused low miles.Found a few 02 vmax that seem very nice.

Low mileage really doesn't mean that much for these sleds, if it was taken care of those triples will run forever. It's actually not that easy to find one with 2000 miles on considering how old these sleds are. And if you do find something with that low of miles you have to wonder how long it had been sitting. If it sat for many years without being ran and they didn't have the engine fogged you could have some rust inside the engine and that would not be good! I'd just look for something in really nice shape.
