Does anybody know how I would test a starter motor? I'm thinking connect the positive and negative to the starter and the other ends to a charged battery. Just wondering if something like this is possible. Any help Is much appreciated. The starter motor is out of the sled...

I test all my starters by taking a battery charger and hooking the ground to the starter and touch the positive to the bolt that sticks out for the hot.

Testing to see if it runs is one thing and can be done by simply connecting 12V DC as noted above. However if you want to know if it is in good shape you need to test the amp draw under load. This is where the auto parts stores come in handy as they usually have equipment to fully test it. Some even allow customers to use the equipment which is nice if you know how.
