i know this is the wrong section to post it in but it gets the most hits and i need this doen tonight. ok, got a 2001 crankcase and i need to take it apart but i cant get it to split? i got the side opposite the stator opened up and but down towards the stator side it won't even let the gap start to open up, do i need to take the stator off? thanks!!!
best guess is yes, it needs to come off. Three screws in the stator, I gotta think at least one goes into each half of the case. Understand that I have never split one of these cases so take that as you will.

yea, i saw the three screws, which were a bi$%# to take off for some reason, ruined the plate that held them, and when i got that off, nothing changed. do i need a flywheel/stator removal tool? thanks!!!!

yes you need a fly wheel remover.....
Once you get the flywheel off, there should be 3 screws holding the stator on. On my 2000 Venture 600, the screws are phillip head. When I pulled the flywheel, I used the screws from the recoil in the puller, they were the same thread and long enough. I thought from your origional post that you had the flywheel(rotor) off already, sorry I didn't catch that.
