Trying to remove the starter on my '99 VT 600,boy oh boy, I might just have to remove the engine! I can only get one bolt out and the other is possible but the other one is tucked way under on the clutch side that I can't even see it. Has anyone tried getting this devil out or just leave the dam thing and pull my arms off in -30 weather? Sure was nice to just hit the key till she quit working and yes the starter is toast, I tried everything to see if it wasn't! Thanks guys'.
Remove the primary, you get access to the lower mount much easier then. I removed one from my 97 venture 500, with no problems. You can buy aftermarket replacement starters on ebay for like 110 or something like that.

Thanks Norwegian, wow that helped a lot!! Got her out this morning, popped the primary off and there it was looking at me! Took the starter apart and she's toast, just worn out. I'll be ordering one from royal dist. for just $124.00 so that's good. Better than trying to pull over 3 cyls. at -25- 30 degrees, just isn't that easy.
