Just picked up a new to me sled the other day 1997 Vmax Sx 700 triple, one of the nicer ones ive seen too. 4000 miles on it, studded track thats not to beat up, very nice seat, and perfect hood, even had the original cover motor looks very clean, had one exhaust manifold bolt missing so was leaking some oil out of that. replaced the missing bolt and tinted the windshield so far. Any other suggestions? i was wondering the torque specs on that bolt though if anyone knew what it was or have a service manual that would be fanatic!!
That is a 1998, not a 1997.

If it's built in may of 97, then it's a 98. They are built the year prior to model year

Didn,t the 1998s have Ohlins for the front shocks?

They had ohlins in 97 and 98. I think all of the 600's had them but you could get them on the 700's. Does your sled have the heated carbs? if it does then it is a 98 for sure.

The colour scheme makes me think it's a 97.

Yep, that's a 98. The petcock thingy on the airbox is the way to turn the carb heaters on & off. The 97s didn't have heated carbs. As for the exh. manifold bolt, I believe it's 17 ft lbs. I check my manual in the morning.
