Hello all, here's my first post..... I recently bought a 97 Vmax 700sx and it has NGK Racing Cables. One of the boots is cracked where it joins the cable. After some agrivating research and actually going to the store and asking their salesman, we still do not know what cable I have. Long story short, there are six to choose from, I suspect that I have the CR 4 8054, but now way to tell for sure. Also, the wire I looked at today at the store have the Roman numeral V not lV as the ones on my sled are now. I'm probably overthinking it but don't want to be stuck 20 miles in the bush and have a problem. I just want to replace all three wires with what was previously on there. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You actually should be able to unscrew the boot, cut a little off the cable, and screw the boot back on.

Yes, screw off the boot and just trim off the damage, then screw the boot back on. Unless of course you already are too short and that's why it's cracked like that.
