When cleaning the power valves on my 2002 SRX, on cylinders #1 and #3, the caps with the cable just slid right off of the ends of the power valve plates. On cylinder #2, the plate was firmly attached to the cable. I read somewher ethat the cables can pull through. What does this mean and did that happen? How do I go about fixing the problem and how much will it cost? Thank you in advance.

I put everything back together. The cables pulled out of the notch in the power valve itself. On one end of the valve is the flat tapered blade that sits inside of the cylinder, and on the other end there is an elongated shaft with a notch on the end where the cable attaches in order to open and close the valve. The calbe on #1 and #3, along with the housing slid right off after I removed the 4 allen head bolts. On cylinder #2, the power valve itself was still firmly attached to the cable/aluminum housing.

Will the sled be ok in the meantime as is if I run it a day or two? Will a pulled valve cause any premature engine damage or wear? It is apparent that the previous owner never cleaned them as they were gummed up and loaded with carbon deposits. All 3 valves are perfectly clean now and slide freely in their respected cylinder openings.

I wouldn't run the sled until it's fixed. The valves cost about $85. each..OUCH

Thank you for your help and suggestions. Ill order the parts today in order to fix the problem properly. Where can I purchase the YPVS tool that plugs into the electrical system for proper adjustment? Does anyone have a preferred dealer with reasonable prices for the OEM parts? Thank you again.

Why don't you just go over to Running's and order what you need? They are like 15min. away. That's my preffered dealer when I'm up north

Mr Sled, I just found my #2 PV cable pulled through on my 02 SRX. I think it has been like this for a while, I was thinking something might be wrong 700 twins were awful close, but it still seemed to run OK. Why did it still run pretty good? Man I hope it turns into the machine it was last year, the twins didn't wanna race. The warranty ran out two weeks ago, but my dealer didn't blink twice and one is on order, can't beat a good dealer. Great site also-THANKS

Ran over to North Country Yamaha in Tomahawk and picked up 2 new cables and 2 new power valves. The cables and ends were fine interesting enough, and the valves themselves had worn away a diamond shape on the back of the valve where the cable "pin" pulled through. New valves have a horizontal slot on the back of them where the cable pin slides through the side, and the cable sticks out of the slot. Must be some soft metal (aluminium) for a steel pin on a steel cable to wear through like that. Easy fix and everything is back together now, and the cables are adjusted to spec. The sled ran pretty well before and topped out at 110-116 depending on conditions on the dreamometer so Im looking forward to how it will run now. Let it snow!
