I have a 91 Exciter ii 570, and I have fuel leaking out the y-pipe. Some back ground information. I was givin this sled in August. One of the heat exchangers cracked and the sled over heated, so. I've put new pistons, rings, head gasket and head on it. New heat exchangers, thermostate, and coolant. It doesn't leak. I've cleaned the carbs out the best I can, and even had the sled up and running and driving around on the grass. Last night I was trying to get the idle set correctly and the machine just shut off. I couldn't get it started, I pulled and pulled. Anyway, it was getting late so I left it. Tonight I came home from work to find a huge puddle of gas under the sled. So I pulled the spark plugs and gave it a pull. Fuel shot up to the roof, so I pulled it over to make sure I got all the fuel out of the cylinders. I pulled the muffler off, it was full of fuel. Pulled the carbs off figuring the fuel inlet needle was worn and everything looked good. Cleaned the carbs again and put the sled back together, went to fire it up, and as soon as I started pulling the sled over. Fuel was pouring out the y-pipe. Again. So I disconnected the fuel lines to the carbs and went inside.

What could be causing this problem?

Sounds like either the floats are stuck or you have bad needle valves (needle and seat).

Alright I changed the needles and seats and it's still doing it. The floats r working I tried it on the bench. Is it possible the choke is set wrong? If so how do you set the choke up on this sled?

makes me think floats but you said you replaced the needle and seats? did you set the float height too? if the carbs are confirmed not to be leaking when pressurized by the pump, take a look at the pulse line from the pump. its rare, but i've had it where the diaphragm in the pump lets go and fuel then fills the crankcase thought the pulse hose. something to check.

I pulled the pulse line off and it was dry. I think the crank is full of fuel so I tried to clean as much out as I could but the sled caught fire. So I got that out, thank god its snowing here. Gunna let it dry for the night. But the carbs don't seem to b leaking anymore and I have the choke and everything set to spec. So hopefully it dries out. And I'll try again tomorrow

did you test the carbs under fuel pressure? if your still having this problem, i would pull them out of the carb boot, with the fuel line still connected and give the sled a couple of yanks to put the carbs under a pressurized fuel condition. no fuel should be observed in the carb throat as there is no moving air to draw it up. if there is you still have a float/ needle issue. let us know your findings.

Alright. Replaced both needles and seats in both carbs. Got the fuel out of the crank case. Had it running good. Just went out tonight to fire it up and the crank is full of fuel again.. what is going on with this machine!? Fuel pump NFG?

if the needle and seats are good, must be gravity feeding into the motor. pump seems to be the only variable left. i think you can assume its the problem.

I replaced fuel pump and cleaned crank housing of fuel. Runs great. How do you set the choke up for this machine?
