Is there a noticeable dip on the contact surface? it does not look too bad, but that shaft is really the life support system for the motor, if it lets go you lose cooling and oil. think the shaft is only $100 from Yamaha, if you have and doubts i would replace it.

I think it will be fine for a couple thousand more miles. It doesn't look that bad. I just couldn't find anything when searching to know what is ok. Maybe when I get the crank back I will set it in and see if I can feel much backlash in it.
that's a steel gear, the gear it rides in on the crank is brass, so youll be fine.
