worst crank seal I have ever seen. This came out of a 83 vmax540 that came into shop for running problems. I pissed with cleaning carbs, syncing them, etc. and it would not run nice and clean. Looked at the dipstick and it was empty on the gear case. Filled up with some oil and then the sled ran worse so I knew where to look. This sled was at 2 other shops and they couldn't figure out what was wrong and 1 of them replaced the crankseals...., I asked the owner did they pull the engine??, he said "no, they were able to do it in the sled". I knew right then what was wrong, ya they replaced the pto side and the mag side outer gearcase seal but not the inner crankseal, they thought the outer gear case seal was a crank seal. Look at how that thing is eaten out, it just drank all the gearcase/waterpump lube.....lol, that's the only reason it didn't self destruct was gear lube on the crank bearings....
