Getting the jam nut off old throttle cable

I've been searching off and on unsuccessfully for the last few days trying to find a couple of metric nuts the same thread as the jam nut on my SRX throttle cable. It is 8mm x 2mm pitch, and it's an odd bugger. Everywhere that carries metric fasteners has the most common 1.25 pitch for the 8mm nut but I have yet to find one with the 2 mm pitch. So it looks like I'm stuck trying to get the jam nut off an old throttle cable, easier said than done, without completely ruining the cable end. Does anyone have either a trick to getting the nut off or perhaps a source for the elusive 2mm pitch nuts?

I assume it is stripped? If so, you might be up s**t creek, someone may be parting out an srx in your area....?? If memory serves you might be able to use one off a brake adjuster from a bicycle.. Pics would be good

If you have a "spare" nut from an old cable, I think you'll have to resort to cutting a small piece out of the nut itself to allow it to pass over the cable. Put the nut into a vise, use a hacksaw and cut through the nut on one of its "flats". Yes, this will compromise the nut but it still can be used with "care". Only other option I guess would be to cut off the cable end making it useless...? Hope that helps!

Well that idea could work, by re-using a "spare" nut and prying it open slightly to get it over the end of the cable, once it is over, if you have a welder and a pair of vise grips, close the vise grips one the nut squeezing it closed again then place a tack weld on the part you cut off. If you dont have a spare nut you could perform this ''trick'' on the old nut by cutting it open, removing it from the cable, closing it up and carfeully welding the inside of the nut only enough to cut new threads, by means of tack welding only, that is if you have access to a welder and the proper drills and taps.

The jam nut on my throttle cable is fine, what I am intending to do with another nut is have it tig welded to the underside of the throttle cable mount on the carb rack.I have one that tends to spread the threaded part of the cable mount with the vibration of the engine causing the throttle cable setting to go out of adjustment. The new nut will have to be cut anyway to allow the cable to pass through it but it won't matter if it is because it'll be welded to the cable mount bracket.I have the original cable off my '98 SRX in my spare parts box,I swapped it out for a longer one from an '01.If I can't find a nut somewhere I'll just cut the end of this cable off and have it welded on.I just couldn't imagine it would be this hard to find a vendor SOMEWHERE that has a 2mm pitch nut in it stock.
