not if the rings have been changed to keep the piston from getting sloppy and rubbing the skirts on the cylinders. The nicasil is very, very hard and wears like iron.

My sx 700r has nearly 17000 miles on original cylinders and still runs great! I think I've reringed it three times over the years. It's finally getting swapped out for a low mileage ported engine due to the mag side crank seal coming apart

I think these machines whether an srx or a viper, if maintained well by the owner are extremely reliable. When buying anything used today, I look at the owner almost more then I look at the machine.
I bought a quad, and when the owner said he didn't know if it was carbonated or fi, I said "sold" because I knew he had never modified anything.

That's the truth of it right there. I've bought em with 5000 miles that the whole sled is ready for scrap and 10,000 miles that look like new

Mine has 18000 miles on it. The only thing that caught me off guard was the metal cage around the reed valves. One of them broke and sucked into the cylinder. When I pulled the other ones out, three of the remaining five were cracked and ready to go. Once you hit 15000 miles, pull the reeds and look very closely at the metal cage!!!!

I just bought one with 10k miles. Still had good compression. All 120 psi when i checked it. Im assuming the motor has never been done. Did pull my power valves to clean yesterday and the cables were pulled through of them tho.
