Kids are a little older so time to get them and myself back on the snow. Found one owner 2003 SxViper thats been stored indoors for 9 yrs. Did minor once over and got it running. Just looking for any helpful hints on things i should be looking for/checking over. Thanks in advance. Will post some pictures in habit. :2strokes:

you mise well fix the wire harness that runs under the engine as it will eventually chaff and short out, they all do.

Do you have to pull the motor for that? I have the carbs and exhaust off now. Might be a good time to do it. Which harness is it. ?

no, you don't have to pull the engine.
1.) unplug at hood hinges up front, tie on a piece of rope about 3-4ft long.
2.) if you look down under front of engine youll see little black rubber coated metal loops bent over the harness, release as many as you can see. Then go over by recoil and observe the harness coming up at back of engine, unplug the stator connectors in the big black rubber boots. remove the carb rack and airbox from sled. With the carbs and airbox out of the way, grasp the harness and pull up and back at same time. It will take a little tug as theres 2 of those little bend over clamps under the engine youll not be able to reach, the harness will come out.
3.) inspect the harness and repair any chaff on the wires, do each one separately. Then buy a piece of 4 ft long automotive plastic convolute tubing, place harness in the tubing and then repull it back with the string you ties on at beginning, place as many of the bend over clamps on harness and plug everything back in.

once done it will NEVER have a problem again! every pro action chassis will suffer from the wire harness chaff at one point in its life, mileage, how rough the trails are etc., just determine when its going to do it, they ALL do it regardless of model, vipers, srx, vmax, sxr, etc.
In 2002 Yamaha knew this was a issue and used a clamp on the srx harness, they still chaff but it is much harder to do on a 2002 srx because of the added clamp, but still should be done.
