Hello, I am looking for help to a problem I have been having for a couple years now.
I have a 98 srx 700 triple. My issue is I have been experiencing random misfiring and seems to be a different cylinder each time. I have been eating through a lot of spark plugs. I love this sled when it's working but since this problem I have been getting discouraged and contemplating selling it.
Has anyone else experienced this issue or is it just me?

It is probably due for some new spark plug caps.

Good chance it is a chaffed wire in the harness like brethren said if you have already changed plug caps.

I would get new Yamaha caps, the 2000 and up srx caps, cut the end of the wires off so you have fresh wire and I realy think it will be a new sled again.
A couple of bucks

I have not noticed any gauges jumping around
I was told by someone with a similar sled and he said never to run my srx for short periods of time. Does this make sense? He said if he would run his for a few minutes then shut it off he would foul a plug. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

I have not had a problem with running them for short periods. I have heard not to give them gas until they are warmed up. Blip the choke when it starts to die until it will run on its own. Not sure if it is true or not since that's what I do anyway. Seems like there was another spot where the harness rubs through. I am thinking it was somewhere on the left side. There is a hole in top of the recoil housing you can look through to check the magnets on the flywheel for rust. I think you might have to take the pipes off to check.I have not noticed any gauges jumping around

my vote is the stator is going bad-how many miles on the sled--5000 + ?? -- also the choke plunger caps are plastic and tend to brake so check those--reeds and reed cages need checked--
