Hi, I am brand new to snowmobiling and two strokes in general. This summer I purchased a 2000 Sxr 700. The guy started it for me when I bought it and it ran well with no smoke at all. Jump forward a few months. I just started the sled yesterday, it starts right up no problem but white smoke just pours out. I read a little about this and thought it might be from sitting for so long but I want to be careful not to damage anything. Also the oil light on the insturment cluster is on. The is plenty of oil in the oil reservoir. How long should I let it warm up, should I ride it for awhile and see if it clears up?

Itl smoke excessively until warmed up. Cheaper non synthetic oil will smoke more aswell.
If it is a real white smoke with a sweet smell it could be a headgasket leak. Thats worse case scenario and probably isn't your problem though.

Thanks for the reply. Ive been trying to get all the info I can and Ive read a lot about the oil pump cable and adjusting that. Since I have no idea what has been done to this sled I am going to check that to make sure its adjusted properly. I believe the previous owner put a handle bar riser on.

make sure oil cable housing is back in it's socket (if it has one).
Another thing that happens if left set a while is that the gas in the bowls, etc. evaporates, but the oil doesn't which causes a very heavy oil mixture until it clears it out.
