I bought a 1990 SRV-540 last year for $400. The sled was running strong, had nice suspension, a decent track, and 1800 original miles. The only problem---it had been stored outside its whole life. So during the summer, I left it out. Bad Idea. The sled was plugged up solid with acorns, leaves, and dead mice . When I started the sled, it was running great, but the idol was a little low, so thinking that I was messing with the idol screw, I turned it a few times. It turns out that I was messing with the mixture screw I got all the crap out that I could find, and took the carb off to clean it. I used carb cleaner, and reinstalled the carb. I am now having a problem with the sled severly bogging. It idols fine, revs up ok if you feather the throttle up slowly (and i mean very slowly), but if you hit the throttle the slightest bit to fast, it sounds like it doesnt get any fuel and wants to stall. I don't know what the heck I did to the mixture screw, or if that is even my problem. Anyone give me any advice??? Thanks a lot.

Carb cleaning
Did you take the carb completely apart to clean it? If you just took the bowl off and cleaned it, you might have loosened some dirt just enough to flow someplace else and plug it off. You need to completely disassemble everything, especially the pilot and main jet and the needle and seat. I'm not sure if they're set up with a metering tube like the Phazer carbs or not, but if they are be sure to remove that and clean it. I usually use a toothpick to run through all of the small orifices to check for caked on gunk. Also, you want to be careful using regular carb cleaner, it can ruin any rubber or fabric seals. I use it, but not until I've got the carb completely apart, and just spray it on the carb body and brass parts. Hope this helps you find your problem.

So I should take the carb off again, take it completely out and pull all of the wires off it, then start cleaning it piece by piece Thanks

Is it smoking badly? If not, then you're lean on that mixture screw, and when you lean it out by opening the slide, there's not enough fuel to keep the sled running.
I'm going to make a total guess at where that mixture screw should be, but try 2 turns out from lightly seated and see what happens.
Otherwise, get a manual and set everything to spec. Good luck!

Choke Problem???
When I leave the choke on the sled runs fine.......I adjusted the mixture screw to 2 turns and it has stopped MOST of the bogging, but it is still doing it occasionaly with the choke off.....What to do next Thanks

if it runs fine with the choke on then it is to lean at normal idle with the choke off.i think that there is something in your pilot jet . start over take the carb off take it apart pull out both jets and make sure they are perfectly clean.air screw 1/2 to 2 turns out should be ok and make sure you have fresh gas.SRV's always had a slite bog or hesatation of the hop. You can clean most of that up with a set carbon tech reed peddles

Running Better
The sled is now running pretty good again, but bogs when you sanp the throttle from idle to full throttle. Should I still pull the jets out?
