Srx I just bought has a chalky white residue all over motor and clutch I've seen it before on some other machines and was wondering what's the best way to clean it off and what it's from I think it was in a barn or garage that wasn't heated and is from condensation but not sure

Oxidation. Everything that comes into contcat with air oxidizes or for lack of a better term RUST. The chalky white stuff all over the aluminum is aluminums way of Breaking down. It will not affect the performance of the engine but it will cause the belt to slip, I have used soap and water and a green scotch brite pad to clean up aluminum. As for the clutches buy some belt/clutch dressing/ cleaner

A green scotch brite pad will clean the clutches up nice. If you want to take the easy road you can do the primary with the engine running and then hand scrub the secondary. Wash them and wipe clean with brake cleaner afterwards. Wrap the pad around a paint stirring stick or a small splint to keep the pressure even across the pad. Or just use your hand most people do that too. The main thing is to get it clean because all that dust will get into the belt and affect how well it's gripped/slips in the clutches
