Dimebag Darrell RIP
My lease is up in April on my 2002 ZR2, I have chosen not to purchase it.
I am looking for a mid to late 90's Chevy or GMC fullsize pickup for $10,000 or less.
I need 4x4, posi and a 5 speed would also be a bonus - PM me with any offers.
Thanks!

Oh yeah I forgot to add - the closer to Northern Michigan the better.

Make sure to get a 1996 or later GM with the Vortech engine. I had a 1995 Chevy with a 350 and 5 speed, and it was not able to get out of its own way! I have an enclosed trailer, and it was all I could do to get it up to 55 mph. Hills would slow me down to 35.
I now have a 2004 GMC 2500 HD with the 6.0 litre, and I don't even know the trailer is back there. The only problem now is I have to stop at every gas station I pass!

your problem was not with the motor. It was with the gears in the rear end of your truck. Most likely you were running 3.55 gears. the truck should have had 3.73 gears, this was a problem with a lot of mid 90 Chevy's.

Good choice not to purchase the lease
I agree, the 96+ Vortec motor is the way to go, not to mention the new dash that started in 1995
You should have no trouble finding a truck fitting that description

I did have the lower rear end on the truck...ordered it with just that reason in mind. The motor just never seemed to have the power a 350 should have.
No problems with the new truck though!!!

Often auto-trans has a higher towing capacity

That may be true - however I prefer a manual trans myself.

I wish I would of read this earlier, I'm a dealer and have about 15-20 diffrent cars and trucks every week, just sold a 1997 Z71 Ext. Cab, with 105,000 miles for $6500. It was black and really nice. I get trucks in all the time. I will let you know if I get anything soon. Looking under to stay under $10,000 and under 100,000 miles right?

Stay away from the '96 Chevy pickups. They had some problems with the 1st year Vortec.

what problem you talkin about? my brother bougt my dad's 1996 k1500 4x4 with the 350vortec. it now has 250,000 km on it. the only weak link on them we know of is the tranny. wasnt built strong enough for the hp(automatic). that and he blew a carrier brg and took out the crown in the rear diff after goin 4x4'in in a swamp. the only motor related problems are caused by the remote starts put on in aftermarket.
