Anyone used the kids harness for snowmobiles. I'm looking to get one for my 4 year old. I've read that some are a pain to connect

We had one. I hated it. Was a pain to use and even worse to get out of. Impossible to do anything quickly when needed cause the kid was attached to me. Used it a couple of times and then I think I tossed it in the trash. Some people must like them but it wasn't for me.

I used to use the ones that buckle around you and provide handles for the kid to ride behind. I still have a couple of these laying around somewhere. I like to put them behind as soon as they are old enough as it allows the driver to better control the sled. When they were younger I put them in front of me but 2 things were a pain . . . Banging helmets, and kid falling asleep. Even used duct tape to hold the kid'd helmet up once, but the banging helmets was impossible to overcome except by having them ride behind.

I bought one and never used it. Ended up just having him ride in front of me and my legs and arms kept him in place. Hard part was when he was getting tired and fell asleep. I became very well at driving with one hand. LOL.
No experience with kids and snowmobiles, but I do have some with kids and motorcycles. The thing I remember most was reading an article that stated passengers fall asleep frequently.
I made a harness for my son to ride behind me. It was similar to a climbing harness, where it went over the shoulders and under the thighs and tied in the front. In the front of the harness I attached a military surplus pouch, filled with our rain suits. The pouch also maintained a small distance between us. I ran a 2" web belt attached to the pouch around my waist. I could disconnect quickly. When my son would get sleepy, and go limp, the harness kept him upright. I could feel the change the pressure around my waist and pinch his knee.

Agreed.
I got a PowerMadd rider belt. Has two positions for your passenger to hold on to. I moved my kids to the back as soon as I could. The banging helmet thing along with the kids hitting the kill switch got real tiring.
Always amazed me how my kids could fall asleep on the sled.

I heard a good one last weekend. One mom put velcro on the kids helmet and her coat so when they fell asleep their head wouldn't fall over to the side. Kid riding in front of course.

On my Sidewinder and 2014 viper I purchased two Mountain Straps from Yamaha and mounted them horizontal for a handle for my kids to hold on. Worked great! I was able to see over my 7 year old on the SW with no problem. Next year he'll be too tall for the front but he has 3 brothers behind him so I'll have kids in front of me for a few more years. I will be purchasing an SX Viper and hopefully mounting a seat jack for the back or some kind of set up. Always kind of a pain to make sure the kinds enjoy the ride but I have found it's great quality time with the family and gives you another chance to hit the trails!
