I see several posts with other models in which guys have added the drop bracket for the rear suspension to get more travel but has anyone done this on a xt600?and same question in regards to the handle bar risers ?

Drop Brackets do NOT give you more travel, just more clearance. The 97 XT is the same body style as the SX & SXr, so whatever can be done to those can be done to your sled. The XT does have the longer travel suspension already.

Not worth it. It only looks cool but will wreck the geometry and ride. Only works if your long tracked and looking for track clearance.
