i have a problem i can't figure out on my 97, 700 Last winter i started to notice it, under load in deep snow it would cut out on one cylinder and bog out, it would return to three after letting off the gas and starting again. not very often but once in a while. This season, it is happening more often to the point that i can only get 4 km before it acts up. it seems to happen as it warms up. it started this season getting about 50 km before it would happen then 20, then 10 and now about 4. so it is getting worse. i have tried another stator, checked the coils, plugs caps are good, new plug wires is it my cdi? crank seals are good, it is not a clutching issue and i am fairly certain it is not fuel related. the sled runs and idles great, just when under load at about 80km or better. any suggestions. it happens so fast i can't narrow it down to a specific cylinder. thanks for your help.

does it only happen when off-trail? If so, it is snow blocking the exhaust, and putting bad air under the hood, which goes directly into the under hood intake.

originally it started out in deep snow, but now it will do it on hard pack about 50 mph. i could cruise around all day at speeds lower than that and never have a problem. i thought about putting a deflector on but have not yet..

Mine was doing it on the TY ride. My pto was too rich and would flood out right at mid to full throttle. Do some plug checks. Maxdlx

how did you remedy this, bigger main? i have my mains down 2 sizes on all cylinders, all the time. it has been getting progressively worse over time but i guess anything is possible. i have changed plugs and they all look to be burning the same. i hate these little problems that can't be figured out. either way i will investigate that a bit more. thanks

I leaned the pto 1 size, and it helped alot, I need to drop the needle 1/2 yet, and I think it would be cured. Just need to decide if it is worth fixing the broken parts first. Maxdlx

it turned out to be the coils, they all tested fine but i guess once they warmed up they crapped out. tried a stator, cdi and finally figured out it was the coils. like night and day difference.

thanks, coils is what i'll look at first. Mine seems to do the same thing.runs fine for the first few miles then when i pinch it it seems like it only runs on 2 cyl.and can only get 50-60mph tops. Your posts and solution may have saved me hours of checking stators and on down the list. Its what makes this site so great. thanks again.

the 97s had some issues with both stators and coils. Both should be suspected right away when problems like this occur.
