I have a 98 SRX 600. I just rest the helix back to stack. 3/3, it was set at 6/1 and was getting 9000 rpm. Now I am getting around 8700 but it seems that the top end is not there. what have all of you foud to be the best setting. the sled is all stock except 144 studs on 1 inch track.

put on a new belt. If you loosen the secondary it will have greater topend, not worse, but the backshift will not be as good when getting on and off the gas in trails, sounds like ya need a new belt to me.

I jus put a new belt on the sled less than two weeks ago. The belt does squeal alot when the sled it sitting at idle. Is it possible that I got a bad belt?

Check the center to center on your clutches. If that doesnot fix the squeel remove one washer from each of the three 10mm bolts on the back of your secondary.

8700? 9000 rpm??? That sounds a bit high for a 600 twin, doesn't it?? I have a 600 twin VMax and according to the tech sheet page, 8100 is as high as you want to wind it...

You want it to run at ~8300-8400 rpm. Useyour new belt, clean your clutches, take out deflection washers behind your secondary and see where your rpm's are at then. Also, make sure you run your secondary at the stock setting (3-3 for 60deg).

HTe stock setting for the helix, according to the tech pages is 45 degrees. What setting would that be?

the 45 degree in the tech page refers to the angle of the helix. you want to to set the secondary at 3-3 which is a 60 degree twist on the secondary spring.

ok. Alot of this is still new to me and without an owners manual I am flying blind. And have to rely on my mechanical abilities for most things.

Looking at your sled on the belt side you will see the belt run to the bigger pully on the right side. take those three nuts off and make sure they are in the three hole of what you are taking off(helix). and when you take the spring from the other part make sure the tip is in the three hole. Put it in those holes and twist it clock wise to get the nuts on. That is 60% three plus three equals six (60%) 6 plus 1 equals (70)degrees twist 6 plus two equals (80) twist. Hope this helps we all dont know everything. That is what they call the secondary on your sled. I hope i helped ya.
