1977-79 Exciter engine

I have an Exciter engine from the late 70's. I know it is from 77-79 because the magneto has the wiring for the dual pick up coils.

Anyone know if I can I use a CDI from a 77 or 78 Exciter on a 79?

I think that's a 76/77 Exciter or GPX stator. in 78 they went to a single external coil. So a 74/75 GPX or 76/77 box should work with it.

ex stators are pretty much the same from 76-79 ..... 80 and 81 had the single pick up coil and use there own cdi 77-79 cdi will all work with each other 76 had 2 individual coils and different cdi

Thanks, That's what I figured. It looks like they just changed the CDI case in 79 but it must be essentially the same inside as the 77/78 in order to work with that stator.
