WELL,NOW I HAVE MADE I THINK ONE COMMENT ON THE 06,BUT THIS IS MY TAKE ON THEM THUS FAR FIRST OF ALL THE FIT AND FINISH HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE TOP OF THE LINE,GREAT LOOKS.I AM NOT SOLD SO FAR ON THE ERGONOMICS.THAT IS SOMETHING I THINK I WOULD HAVE TO GET USE TO.

NOW THE ONE AND ONLY THING THAT I JUST DON'T GET IS THE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO,THIS IS SOMETHING YAMAHA HAS ALWAYS HAD OVER OTHER COMPANIES,FOR THIS I THINK Y WILL HAVE TO WORK ON, MAYBE WE WILL SEE THE WEIGHT COME DOWN BUT THE PRICE GO UP,WITH THE ADDITION OF LIGHT WEIGHT METALS.THE NYTRO SEEMS TO BE THE SLED I WOULD GO AFTER, BUT I FEEL Y SHOULD HAVE PUT A 120 INJECTED MILL UNDER THE HOOD, AT LEAST IN MY BOOK THIS WOULD THRILL ME A LITTLE MORE.THE SHORT WINDSHIELDS YOU CAN BET WILL GET BEAT ON BY THE PRESS,THEY DID IT FOR YRS WITH 9.3 WINDSCREEN.YAMAHA HAS ALWAYS BUILT A VERY RELIABLE SLED, A LITTLE DOWN ON POWER BUT NONE THE LESS DEPENDABLE.SO NOW THAT I AM THROUGH WITH MY YAMAHA YAMMERING...LOL

IN MY OWN OPINION THE BEST LATE MODEL YAMAHA WITH THE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO THAT WAS SPOT ON THE MONEY WAS AND IS IN MY BOOK THE SX 700 AND I AM NOT SAYING THIS CAUSE I OWN ONE BUT I HAVE TO SAY I HAVE OWNED MY SHARE OF YAMMIES AND THIS ONE IS TOPS IN MY BOOK.

THANKS FOR LISTENING, AND NOW I WILL BE SILENT.

RIDE AND HAVE FUN PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE, AND BE THANKFUL YOU LIVE IN THE GOOD OLD USA WHERE YOU HAVE THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
GODSPEED.......

Red, you couldnt be more wrong on this one. Now, I will use yamahas published dry weight info because no one has actually weighed any of these yet. I will also you there published info for the 98 SX as they dont even show the 97 anymore and it had steel skis on it so thats a little off.
1998 SX 700 Weight 500lbs HP 112 that comes out to 4.46lbs to one hp
2006 Apex RTX weight 539 HP150 that comes out to 3.59lbs to one hp.

In comparison, the 98 SX would have to have 140hp to have the same power to weight ratio as the Apex. Just simple Math. ===SRXSRULE===

I have to agree that the 700SX is an excellent machine, bought one new in 98 and loved it. I don't know if it had the best power to weight ratio but it had the best combination of power and light weight. My SRX will crush it in a drag, but on a tight trail the SX was unbeatable.

Just for fun, using published dry weight specs (I have no positive proof otherwise), and average reported/published horsepower figures, here are some other power-to-weight specs:

At least from Yamaha's repertoire, at 3.59 the RTX has the best P2W ratio of any sled they've ever produced. If I'm wrong here, please correct me.

2002 SXViper - Weight: 489 lbs; HP: 120-125 (arguably) lets go with 123
P2W Ratio: 3.98 lbs per HP

2002 SRX 700 - Weight: 522 lbs; HP: 140-145 (arguably) lets go with 143
P2W Ratio: 3.65 lbs per HP

2005 Mach Z - Weight: 519 lbs; HP: 165
P2W Ratio: 3.15 lbs per HP So... tell me, why is it no faster than an SRX? :)

2005 F7 - Weight: 460 lbs (hmmmm); HP: 140
P2W Ratio: 3.29 lbs per HP

Don't forget about the other performance 4-stoke sled on the market:
2005 T660 - Weight: 570 lbs; HP: 110
P2W Ratio: 5.18 :EXER: I almost want to say "good try with the 4-stroke", but I think that's even giving too much credit.

My current sled

95 STX 583

100hp + 535lbs dry weight

Nytro

120hp + 533lbs dry weight

I have no problem slugging around a 530+ 100hp sled

Yet I am 6'5 255 so that can explain something

BUT the power to weight thing is overblown IMO

It is how the sled is setup to run that counts ;)

Redmatter, What trails sleds have you owned that were built after 97? Or are you talking about everything before you bought the 97? ===SRXSRULE===

Hey Red and to the rest who ride sx's and Srx's. Do you guys feel that yamaha is going away from the FLAT CORNERING of these sleds? Is the forward position and issue to you? I guess you could include the Viper also. Just asking in general.

Power to weight? I know my SXR sure doesn't have the ponies, but in our group the guy who leads always finishes first no matter what sled their on. lol. I'm still stuck on the 2 lbs off the crank, that baby should get up to r's in a heartbeat compared to the RX1. (I hope they last)

Before 97 Rules Its Just My Opinion, havent Rode Aything But A Sx And Srx Since 99, And I Know What You Are Thinking, and I Am Not Be Judgemental About Any Yam. After 99.i Just Love My Sx.as For The Flat Cornering Yes They Seem To Going Away From It By The Looks Of The New Bump Machines.
I Love My Sx's Flat Cornering Ability And Will Keep This Sled Til Im Dead....

I don't think they'll ever be able to match the combination they had in the SX. The biggest reason being is they designed it for super flat cornering and compromised other things to get it. The short travel suspension can't match the comfort and bump ability of the newer long travel stuff everybodies building now, but long travel comes at a cost too. Try to go road racing in a Jeep is the best way to describe the challenge of making long travel handle well. They'll continue to improve but that's a tall order (pun intended) Sometimes memories are like wine and improve with age, but I don't think I'll ever own another machine that fit like that and gave me the confidence to go way faster than I should. When I bought that machine my 2 riding buddies had just switched from Yamaha to Ski-doo when they balked at the price of the SX. I would literally embarass them in the trails with little effort and those guys weren't slow. They would be exhausted with the work necessary to try to keep their MXZs from rolling over at every turn. It was great fun.
Redmater it doesn't matter what you compare it to built before or after 97 those machines still rock, don't sell it, ever.

thanks and i wont sell it,you know i put the pioneer performance long travel set-up in and the cornering abilities didnt suffer one bit,i like to pin turns and slice and dice corners. SO MUCH FOR BEING QUIET HAHAHAH! YOU KNOW? i am not a guy who likes to stir up contraversy,or get into pissing matches about sleds. i like what puts a smile on my face and isnt that what really matters.....

yes it matters. too bad mother nature isnt helping much where I am..........although it is snowing at this moment... :)
