I happened to be looking at some sled photos side by side which led to some photoshop cut and paste. What you have here is a viper seat on a new Apex. Same height/angle. Thought it looked pretty good.

haha, oh man!!! you guys are already mod'n them out before you even have them!!! geeze, little 4 stroke fever i guess!!! looks sweet, just need that little bit of red, or whatever color it is, accent in there!
 
lets see what the production seat will look like.....I personally dont like the look of the new one but dont like the viper one there either.
 
You should be working for yamaha's design team. That's a much better looking seat. I don't know why they would take such a beutiful looking machine and put such and ugly seat on it.
 
Huge improvement! Any other comments on what Yamaha put there for 06 would probably be considered bashing so no further comment.

good job, now throw a 800cc 2 stroke twin in that bad boy, the Apex GT graphics and make it 500lbs or under and you got yourself one hell of a sled.
 
I guess I'm a minimalist since I like the OEM seat better but would rather it be plain black. It looks classier without the bold Yamaha logo on the side of it. Ski didn't you sell your Boss seat because you didn't like the Bold Viper logo on the side of it. I bought a widetop this year and they decided to silkscreen the Boss logo on a 45 degree angle instead of staight across so I complained and they agreed to redo that panel so I told them to leave the logo off it completely and it looks much better plain. I'll see if I can get a pic of it on my trip next weekend and post it here.
 
nope kept the seat. the logo didnt bother me, the flat top look did. starting to grow on me though. i think what i dont like about the 06's is there is no logos. little graphics on hood, small moniker on windshield, and the yamaha name on the exhaust covers. i like the old large decals telling everyone what you ride. that seat pic above makes that sled in my eyes. like i said before, to each his own. ski

But also agree it should be all black

:ORC Some of us are over 6 feet tall 6'5 to be exact and having a hump like the old seats felt cramp IMO

btw the Blue Nytro seat does not look bad IMO

I would guess this will be the final seat design. I noticed these two pics were not on the site Monday, at least not at first. Notice the storage cover looks to be a little higher and more rounded. I think when we actually get to see and sit on production models in the showroom we will not be so disapointed. From certain angles they look a bit odd, but I'm holding judgement until I see em' for real. Personally I think they look better than those $500 BOSS seats.

(Mountain boys probably got the biggest treat this year. That thing is insane!)

I wonder how well a 162 X 16 would handle on the trail :)...such a beautiful sled!!!

I would have one for sure if I lived out west! There is going to be some lucky guys next season!

Rumor has it the seats and trunks on the sleds right now, arent whats going to be on them. They are changing them. The trunks are super cheap and flemsy.
 
I really hope they change the seat design, the viper seat looks better on the new sleds than the flat top ones do, it completely changes the look of the sled. My main beef with the 06's is the seat, windshields, and exposed handlebars, they are just odd looking. The new hood design and side panel design looks good, could anyone photoshop an RX-1 seat on the Apex? What about RX-1 handlebars too?
 
The trunk design is NOT finished, and the foam in the seat is NOT finished. Bushman you are correct, the longer the sled is, the better the seat fits. The only bad thing about the yammies is THE MTN APEX NEEDS 8" REAR WHEELS TO REDUCE ROLLING RESISTANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
