I just picked this sled up last year and didn't clean the power valves, spent quite a bit of time cleaning carbs and putting in new jets, cleaning. Thought I better pull them out, wow, they were bad, middle one was completely stuck in there. Should run much better now!

What kind of oil was being used in that sled?

when you put them back in the bevel faces down, be sure to align the housings as well the raised bump on top faces up to allow the weep hole to point down. the 98 didn't have the location pins they added on 99-02.

Who knows?? I'm running Amsoil Interceptor. Guy probably never cleaned them. Sled has 5281 miles on it.

Carb cleaner and scotch brite.
You have to be careful when cleaning those valves, there is a coating on them, you don't want to remove the coating with the scotch brite. I bought a set of plastic non marring chisels from harbor freight, they scrape the carbon off without harming the coating.

Wow that is a gorgeous sled! I also have to clean the power valves on my friends 02 Viper 700 and tips on the job never work on a power valve engine. And these have never been cleaned as far as I know.
