I need to change the track on my '86 SRV. So I am thinking that changing the skid might be worth it. So I am looking for some advice from people that have done it. Looking to put in an Xtra 10. They say it is "easy". It is as easy bolting the new skid in the original mounting holes? Is the skid upgrade a noticeable ride quality difference? Thanks for any advice!

Xtra 10 has been retro fit into countless sleds. Yes, it will be noticeably better than what you have. Is it going to act like a newer sled - no. You also have to think about the front suspension and how it will work with your newer rear skid. You aren't jumping 20 years in tech and 15" of travel so I think it will be ok, just something that must be considered.

It's going to sit much higher in the rear than the front, that will affect your handling.

The 96 VMax XT had the extended travel rear suspension similar to the Xtra 10 but it was offset by longer travel front struts as well.

If you raise the back you should also raise the front.

I put an extra 10 with the gas fox shocks from a 2002 polaris xc700 into my 98 srx700 and it made a huge difference. Best thing i ever did. That old "No action" srx skid was absolutelly junk for trail/lake riding.
