Can you take the fitting off? Just start off w/ about 3 " of fuel line. Make a mark on the line at the appropriate place measured from the filter. A coat hanger in the fitting hole might help fish it thru.

to replace the line, you need to pull #4 in the fuel tank parts diagram. i do not see any gasket or o-ring in the fiche so be careful. make sure you empty it btw. should be an easy fix once you do that.
This just happened on a friends Polaris I was working on. I don't know about Yamaha, but Polaris gas tanks have a hole in the front wall, a rubber plug fits in the hole and a brass barb goes through the rubber plug. The biggest pain I had was I discovered the problem after I filled the tank.
Looking at the parts picture for my 2002 Venture, it seems Yamaha has a flange that bolts to the front of the tank. I don't know how easy it is to get the tank out of a Yamaha compared to a Polaris.
