So I am infatuated with my pair of deadly awesome looking 2002 viper (er) and while im using the net to find things to bling them out (red split loom for plug wires and hoses, red chassis tunnel supports, red led kit etc etc) I am scouring youtube for snow cross events back in the day from 2002 and up.
I noticed that I did not see alot of yamahas more namely the vipers in alot of the racing. Maybe a handful at best. I saw a crowded field of cats and doos on every race.
Why?
Was yamaha not popular in the race scene? Its seems to me that from about 97 through 04 the yamaha triple was the bench mark for performance sled engines and based on my own opinion when I have been researching buying sleds recently, that the viper has the most resale value for those years hell Ive seen 06 and 07 apex sell for almost same price as 02 viper.

Think they used it for a bit, mostly was the Sxr chassis modified. Yugi nakasaga I think was his name ran Yamaha race sleds, Chris Vincent back in the day too.

zr7cat.. thanks brother for the info.. I was beginning to wonder what was up. Im still amazed that not more racers were running them.. I have the ER version of the viper and its weighted down but thats ok for me.. its a trail sled and I might mod out the clutch a bit for some more snap out of the turns but even with me at 350 (fat @$$ i know. . Im working on it) and the weight of the sled, this motor is a freaking nasty some b!tch with all kinds of power.
Ive rode ZRT, and ZR and doos from the same era, and If I was a racer I would have chosen the viper. Deffinately would have modded it out for weight, but this would have been my chariot then and Im glad it is now.. Even with the (what I would call rave success) with the Apex, it seems the Viper is still the king. Even as I look at the new vipers, nothing stands out other then looks, but I hear that the new sidewinder is soon to be crowned king.. Maybe when I will pick up a used one when they start selling used for under 10k.. but for the forseable future, my pair of 02 vipers are where its at for me..

Sure would be nice to hear a triple-triple 2 stroke again at the races!

Cool vid! Yep Yugi Nakazawa! I saw him race up in Gaylord, they used to have the nationals up there at the fairgrounds every year. Blair Morgan ride for cat and T Train was just starting. Good stuff back then.
