Any benefit to removing the foam AND THE SHELF that supports the foam? It looks very restrictive under the hood and this may help air flow such as a CAI would do.
the obvious concern removing the foam is protection n for the engine. Any jetting changes?

What sled? If your riding in powder I would have some kind of foam there. Keeps it out of carbs.
honestly i would keep it,mine had been all chewed up when i bought my viper it looked like crap so i got a new/used one off ebay it didnt notice any performance gain at all..

this would be for drag racing and speed runs for a 2000 srx.
I am more interested in pulling the shelf that holds the foam. In its current configuration when the hood is closed it sits very tightly against the top of the air box, and actually overlaps tightly at the front of the airbox . If the foam holder was removed, It might gain approx. 1" clearance from the hood to the top of the air intake and hopefully allow easier air flow.
This would be easy to do, I might experiment to see if there is any difference.
