I'm in need of help on my 97 sx 700. I replace the stator last year because the sled had no spark. This year I noticed the spark seems weak I cant get the sled to run at high rpm at 7k it seems to brake up really bad. also after a 30 mile trip if I shut the sled off and try to fire it up its very hard to start and I cant see any spark . any input would help . Any wiring diagrams , a way to ohm out the new stator or the plug wires coils anything . I'm at a loss and don't know were to start.

Try changing you plug caps. Maybe fresh plugs while your at it. Also is your stator a Yamaha or an aftermarket? Aftermarkets stator have a reputation for being hit or miss

I can try changing the plug caps plugs are brand new, its a aftermarket stator,
if you have the old caps still on ....change them they have a way of going bad

if caps dont fix the problem, i would check that stator with an ohm meter. those non oem units are known problems

I had a nearly identical problem with my 700. After buying a new oem stator, I found out it was the plug caps all along! Mine would start and run fine cold. Nearly impossible to start hot.
A couple of bucks
