I just returned from the dealer tech seminar and sled show today, if you are a 4 stroke skeptic, you wont be after you hear some of the information about the 06 sleds. The new 06 apex series of sleds are 5.5 sled lengths faster in a 1/4 mile then the 05 rx1 !! 5 mph more top end then a 05 rx1, The phrase used by yamaha was "after riding the 06 apex, when you get back on a 05 rx1 it feels like someone took off one of the plug wires".....LOL!!!!! Every effort was put into getting the all new engine to rev faster and apply more power at a faster rate. Downdraft venturis now instead of side draft on rx1, bigger cams, airbox design part of front of the hood, ports are changed to a straight flow design, curved on a rx1,lighter crank by 2.2 pounds, the new engine is 7lbs lighter alone then a rx1 engine. They have simply outdone themselves in the 06 line up, there is a sled for about every niche of riders out there. I feel the old srx/vipers are model A's now, they should have a hand crank sticking out of the front of the hood!!!! LOL, they are by no means of any equal of anything. I took apart, played with and had almost every question I could muster up answered in great detail by the yamaha guys. The clutch weights are differnt now, they have 3 holes in which to add weight. Yamaha has listened to your request and they have delivered, you must see them in person and ride one of them. There wil be alot of demo rides you can attend for the 06 series, DO it!!! The seating ,comfort, design of controls of them is unreal, they do not make you feel like a rev, they are BETTER, the chassis is all about centralized mass, flatter cornering like the ol srx. The radiator added for low snow cooling is placed in the right side of the engine bay because yamaha did not want to use a rear heat exchanger and place weight in the back of the sled, again alot of thought went into these sleds and everything they could do is in the center of the sled, the airbox is actually part of the hood, up in front of the headlight, the hood does not have hinges any more, it releases with dzus 1/4 turn fastners and comes off completely, has a titanium bracket on it, hood is stupid light weight!!! the electronic shocks from the gt can be added to the apex er,rtx by simply bolting it on and plugging them in, the wiring and all controls are the same for all the apex series sleds...neat!! The new front clicker shocks can be used on all longtravel series sleds with eyelet mounts, even rx1's, they are a very trick shock in that they allow you to adjust with a 20 pos. clicker dial on top and on bottom, not only the compression but the rebound rate as well, you couldnt do this with the now famed ohlins on the sx,srx, this shock out does them!! I do feel bad for the 05 rx1 owners, they refined that sled greatly since 03, now it too is like a srx, viper, outdated, sell them rx1 guys or youll be left behind, technology is here, and I do strongly believe, yamaha is years ahead of the rest of the market. This years sleds will Prove that and will deliver the performance we have craved for on sleds out of the box!! AWESOME presantation and job on the new sleds Yamaha!!!Thank you very much for letting me attend your seminars and for your hospitality!!! I will take a new apex GT and thank you, its already in my color.....black....LOL!!!

Who would have thought four years ago (last year of the SRX) that we would be seeing sleds with this much technology - I was starting to get real frustrated with Yamaha until last year - they have always had a pattern of falling behind then taking great leaps forward - this year is for sure a great leap forward - if I were Polaris or Arctic Cat I would be getting a little nervous - still not crazy about the windshields! LOL

My neighbor is selling his SRX and every day I go buy it I think, I should buy that. After Mr Viper's post I am being swayed back to a new Apex. If I can test ride this machine this year, I have a feeling it will end up costing me 10 grand.

Since my dad got his first Yamaha sled in 1977 he has said Yamaha is lightyears ahead of the competition. I definitely believe it. I want an Apex right now!

the 06's and the previous yamaha's
When the rx1 came out I thought it was great, very neat and cool idea, and with the emissions std's taking effect real soon. I have played with them, clutching, suspension, track swap, jetting, air filter kits and they can be made to be very impressive, but I never really thought I would have to sell my hotrod srx, cause the hotrod srx would still wax a rx1, then thru evolution, they refined the rx1 and by 05 it was a very stought and very nice riding/handling machine, the introduction of the mono shock skid was a real turning point, along with the continous weight reduction evey year, they handled great and transferred weight like no yamaha ever has done before, but still my ol srx would wax a 05 stocker unless it had a turbo, but now after seeing the 06 sleds, my srx is a model A, its not even close, I should carve up a set of wooden ski's and add a crank handle to the front of the hood!!! I do believe the 06 will be waxing me, time to step up to the technology!! I cant remember being this impressed with a new line up from Yamaha since 97-98!! I am a believer already, cant wait to try clutching and stuff on them, should be alot of non believers converting this year. Its pretty simple, you can either step up to the technology or be left behind, no one is forcing anyone to buy one, but I think your gonna have that feeling inside," I shoulda got one...." if you dont.

glad to hear I wasnt the only 1
Grape....was pretty nice of them to let us tear them apart right there wasnt it?? The main guy from head of service stood there and answered every question I could think of while I removed parts....lol, I had the gt down to the bare bones, hood, side panels off, I forgot a socket set or would have had the headlight assembly off too....lol. It was a great showing for the dealers I thought.
