Found a brand new wiring harness for a 2001 700 (8DS)
But my motor is a 2002 and it takes a (8ED) wiring harness.
Both use a 8DM CDI box.
What could be the difference between the two?
I can’t think of any reason the part number would have changed from 2001 to 2002.
Any ideas ?

Should not be a difference. 2000 to 2001 there would be. Is it the same exact model?

Yes, I just looked up a 2001 Mountain max and a 2002 mountain max.
The hood wiring harness is the same on both, but the main harness is different from 2001 to 2002.
Just don’t understand why.

Don’t see any reason why it would be different in that sled.

I assume(@ss-u-me) that there isn't any physical difference. 2002s prefix is 8ed and 2001 is 8ds. Both are obviously the higher wattage stator. Obviously save the AFU harness for possibly a plug difference. What could be the difference between the two?

Found this as one of the changes for 2002.
Must be it. Hard to understand, seems like they wrote the description wrong.
Very interesting. If the CDI number matches and you replaced all the components attached to the harness I would think it would work. Right?

Yes, I think it will work either way. The 2001 harness obviously worked as well as the 2002.
I think what the description was suppose to say was "prevent loss of headlight when starting the engine."

I'd venture to guess your right. That relay would energize above ?? volts. Probably 11.2 volts. And not surge with every thump/revolution of the crank while pulling it over. Which is how many headlight bulbs blow.

Well, I have a full harness from a 2002 MM,(old and greasy) and I just ordered this new 2001 harness. So I will check it out when it shows and report what I see.
If nothing else, maybe I can splice in the 02 updated relay ? Time will tell...
