Purchased this sled out of a guys backyard field as a project sled for my grandson to start out on. Here are some before and after pics. replaced, skis, seat, rear suspension, tail light, handle bars, plus gave her many baths and lots of scrubbing. Previous owner had a mice issue and removed electric start as the harness was chewed to crap! She is back and purrs like a redhead should! here are some pics !

3-4 years and well used before that! speedo says 4800 miles but the lower shaft key is broken off inside the shaft so not really sure.

That broken key is actually in an insert that's pressed into the drive shaft and can pull out and replaced. I read a thread about it on this site about a year ago.

that busted key usually points to bad jackshaft bearings

Bad bearing yes, but usually it’s the bearing behind the speedo drive.that busted key usually points to bad jackshaft bearings
If you take it apart, make sure the speedo drive actually turns, just found mine rusted solid.

Thanks guys, I already changed speedo bearing and noticed the key broken in the shaft. How can you get that out without destroying the shaft? square key right? wasn't aware that the insert section of square hole was removable from shaft?
Thanks Blue

That sounds like it would be very difficult while still in the sled. Needlenose? Drill it out.?

The real question is how many pulls did it take to get it started?
Even one season of storage and I'm looking at at least 75 pulls on my redhead triple. And even then it idles/runs like a like garbage until she gets a good rip.

Wow! My 700 redhead usually needs maybe a dozen or more pulls to start and within a few minutes will idle fairly well after 5 months of storage . I'm not saying that to brag, just the way my sled is.

1. Premix in a Dawn dish soap bottle.
2. Squirt into slush box.
3. Pull.
4. Repeat probably 3 or 4 times. MAXXXXXX
Note: be aware that excess fuel will be coming out of the slush box. Throw an old AFU cookie sheet underneath.

Slush box? I've only heard that term when referring to automatic transmissions.

The air box(now a days) was referred to as a slush box quite some time ago.
