99 venture xl

A buddy of mine just picked up a 99 venture xl. Kind of an oddball sled picked up for parts. The guy told him its a 600, but i looked at the tech page and it seems to be a 500. The skid was out when he picked it up. Its a 136, with 8 tooth drivers and 21/39 gears. Does anyone know why in the world it would be geared so low?

They came factory stock with 9 tooth drivers.

That makes sense with 9 tooth drivers. It would be geared way to low otherwise. Thanks

Is the rear grab bar in rough shape?
