I recently bought a 91 Phazer 2 for a project. Changing the chain case oil I noticed the lower gear floats on the splined drive shaft about an 1/8 of an inch or so. Is this normal or should there be spacers in there so it won't slide back and forth? Just seemed a little weird to me, but I don't know much about these old Phazers. Just learning as I go. I am really enjoying fixing this thing up.

For the 91 phazer the parts diagram only shows a collar between the lower chain case bearing and the gear with no spacers. The lower gear should self align on the splines with the upper gear when you adjust the chain tension.

Thanks for the reply. It does center when the adjuster is turned. I am sure it is fine. The chain case is finished. I am moving on to freeing up the front suspension linkage now. Thanks again.
