Hi All,

I was wondering what is the history / different variations of the Pro-action rear suspension.

I have a 97 Vmax 600sx and I think the rear suspension is "OK" I am looking into getting a new sled in the fall...

Thanks
-Steve

I am not sure of your question, but perhaps you are looking for the next generation of the Y system.
Your generation of front and rear was used from 97-99. The next generation has for the most part been used until 03. The difference is a longer stroke/ more travel front and rear. You can improve the ride quality of your machine a great deal by adding the maximum performance or Pioneer Performance long travel kit. This kit is around 350 us and utilizes the 2000 longer shafts, different valving, and a different center shock spring.

The next generationm is 2005, and that includes two new suspensions. The monoshock being the most popular with the dial adjust on the side of the tunnel. This suspension can be found in the rx1 in 2005 and the apex in 06.

I would hop up your 97 before I would go buy a 2000 - unless you want a 700 as well then it may be worth it.

Hope I helped.

I am looking to get a 2006 something... most likely a Nytro.

You basically answered my question... Not that I am a Ski-poo fan... but I know they have a SC-3 rear end and have a SC-4 in some of their newer sleds... I have read that thier SC-4 is a vast improvment over the SC-3.

It seems that Yamaha does name their rear suspensions like Pro-Action CK, CX, Plus?

I guess what I am asking is this:

Has Yamaha made significant changes in their rear suspension since my 1997 600sx was made.

Thanks,
-Steve

Haven't ridden one yet but lots of people really seem to like them. I'm intersted in that myself. On my sled I had my dealer upgrade my shocks with the Viper upgrade that came with the 2003 sleds and to me it made quite a dramatic difference....

History of the Pro-Action

I believe the Pro-Action rear skid began on the SRV's back in mid-late 1980's. I believe that it was titled "Pro-Action Link" I know that this doesn't answer your question, but the post was titled "Pro-Action History" so I thought I'd throw a little history out there. The pro-action skid has certainly come a long way since the SRV.

Snowwmax....The suspensions were changed dramatically in 05. Totally redesigned from your current sled. The suspension in your sled came out in 96, changed a little in 97 then went to a longer stroke on some sleds in 98 then went through some teaking up to 04. There are a few 05 sleds that still have the old pro action version and they are in the 05 warrior and rage. In 05 they intrduced an all new mono shock suspension in the RX-1 only and redesigned the pro action for the vector, venture and mountain sleds. In 06 they expanded the use of the mono shock suspension in like six different units. So to answer you're question....yes everything is new or has been upgraded.

you are correct that the warrior and rage did have the same basic geometry as the "standard" proaction suspension, but from what i have heard it acts completely different from the previous proactions with the addition of that clicker shock in the rear. People i talked to were VERY happy with the ride of the "CK"
