I have a crack on my chaincase and the oil won'T stay in the chaincase. What if i ride today without chaincase oil?? i will change my chaincase this week but was wondering if i can really hurt something, riding a couple of miles without oil!! personnaly, i dont think it will be a problem?!

you'll mess up bearings gears chain tensioner, could easily mess up the driveshaft (maybe taking the front heat exchanger with it)
if your chain goes you all of the sudden have no brakes, and could mess up more than just the sled
I wouldn't do it

Oil lubes the bearing, chain, gears, and tensioner....if you are going next door..go for it...if you want to go 2 miles...you'll get towed home with a big mess on your hands. Fix it..then ride it.

yea i definately wouldn't go too far with no oil in the chaincase, it provides all the cushioning for the bearings.

if you have to ride it home or somthing take a grease gun and pump a sheet load of grease in the dipstick hole hope this helps you out and yes you could go for a long time but why did it crack is the problem.

are you wanting to go for a ride? or just get it home? sure riding is fun, but 500 bucks and alot of time fixing the sled is no fun!!! i would have it towed or trailered home, mite save alot of money and headache's

I use to run my race sled with no chaincase cover on it so I could change gears quick during testing. But, I was only doing short runs. Depending where your leak is you coudl clean up the part and us JB weld to seal it up. ===SRXSRULE===

Hey Rules, are you sure about that BJ weld or would you use JB weld?
For a quick fix to hold the lube in, use any kind of sealer (silicone/permatex/or JB weld).

yes jb weld will work on a crack clean the aria real good so there's no oil resideue then wire brush it . smash the jb weld down in the crack as much as you can from both side's and let it cure good . you might miss a day or too of ride but no oil culd end your season

We test all the time with no oil or cover, and you sid you were only going to run a couple miles? A couple is 2. It would be OK for that but I'll bet you're going to run further than that. Any way all you're going to do is junk any good parts you have left and more............

Two years ago I lost the drain plug from the chaincase. Destroyed everything. I wouldn't go very far but I think I went a long way without any oil.
