Recently got into working on an 87 Enticer TR with electric start. Previous owner said it would repeatedly fry the source (charging) coils and ignition coils.
I found that both coils were bad. Now I have some figuring to do. I suspect that there is a grounding issue somewhere. So I will basically rebuild the whole electrical system. Parts of it had already been bastardized by previous fix attempts.
Could a bad CDI take out the coils, or would it typically just not work? How would I determine if another stator coil were grounding or otherwise verify that the stator harness is all ok?
As part of the rebuild I will be testing every cable and connection, but would definitely appreciate any hints on what to look for.
