I currently ride a 01 srx and a 03 rx-1, I was planning to get rid of both for a nytro and an apex. Before a get the nytro i was just wondering how is the performance of the 3 banger? Is it quick up to a certain speed. quicker than the rx1 to a certain speed? was is the top end? Just wanted to know any little characteristics about it because i have never ridden one.

nytro is gonna be geared lower and clutched from the factory different than the vector.rx-1 vs. vector, it will stay with a rx-1until about 60mph then the rx-1 will pull right away.

the tq and corner to corner speed is awesome on the vector. dad has one, and it is as good handler (probably better) and faster corner to corner than my 03 viper (stock, both sleds) go for it, wont be disapointed :)

my vector ran against my buddies F7 and held him off till about 75 mph. needless to say, he was very impressed with the 4 stroke. the only advantage i had was studs over him, and came off the line better.

alot of factors will add up on how the vector will do in a race, the nicest thing i found on it, is the corner to corner acceleration. very happy i bought it!

as for the RX-1, i have heard many things, but haven't lined up with one. i was told the vector and RX are dead even to about 80. (came from my dealer) and then the RX just keeps pulling.

wife has a vector, and it has plenty of power, it is really sneaky fast.... you dont feel that ur going real fast, until u glance at the speedo and its at 80. pulls really hard, i am impressed.

I rode my '01 Polaris 600 XC (115 hp) and then Saturday I rode an RS Vector, RX-1 and Polaris Fusion.
In my honest opinion, the Vector is quicker than my 600 XC. I was amazed at the torque that sled has. Unlike a 2-stroke, where the power is kind of mild and then WHAM it hits hard at about 6000 (when the reed valves open), the Vector's power was very smooth and it had a nice steady build of power from 4,000 all the way to 8500 rpm. I liked the Vector much better than any 600 I have ridden.
In comparison to the RX-1, the Vector starts to run out of steam at about 90 mph whereas the RX-1 pulls hard well beyond 100 mph. I would say that the Vector and the RX-1 were pretty equal up to 80 mph, but at that point the added cylinder, 5-valve heads and 1500 rpm higher rpm limit of the RX-1 takes over and the RX-1 leaves the Vector in the snowdust. However, I got the impression that the Vector felt a little quicker at the lower revs, I attribute this to the fact that the Vector has bigger pistons than the RX-1.
I would still go with the Vector. I myself dont do a lot of lake riding, so there is no advantage for me in going with the RX-1 (other than the exhaust note). I ride a lot of tight trails, so I would very seldom use the high-rev power of the RX and I would also appreciate the lighter weight of the Vector. Also, the Vector gets better fuel milage (20 mpg for the Vector vs 16 for the RX-1). Im hoping to own an RS Vector myself in a few years. Thats not to say that I would turn down a nice used RX-1 if the price was right, however....

the REED valves open at 6,000 rpm? I'm sure you mean the exhaust valves, because the reed valves start opening and closing as soon as you start it up.

You definately will be happy with a Vector

My wife also has a Vector and she loves everything about it especially the handling. I've put a few miles on it and I was really impressed. As mentioned before, the power is sooo smooth that you really don't know how fast your going til you look at the speedo. It has awesome throttle response, great for blipping the throttle to get launched or hop up or off of something. It is basically silent when running, weird when you can hear everything going on under the hood or tunnel. She kept thinking she was racheting and it was just the ice in the suspension. Everything about the Vector is thumbs up...just need to get the rear dialed in for her weight, the rear spring needs to be loosened up for a softer ride. The front is perfect though and turns on a dime. Additionally, so far we've ridden in temps from -5 to 35 and the vector all aways starts on the first turn of the key. All I could think when I rode it was, if this is how good the 4 strokes are today, imagine what they'll be like in five years...WOW!!!

I have a modded Viper and it is faster in everyway to my dad's vector HOWEVER I like the vector in so many other ways that I would actually prefer that sled. I drove a RX1 and Vector in one weekend. The Vector was all stock, the RX-1 had a clutch kit and 196 studs, and air intake kit. The vector was as fast as the rx-1 up to about 65ish then the RX would fly by. Both my Viper and the RX felt more rough and menacing (more so with the viper) but the vector was quiet, more refined and defintily better in the bumps. If trail riding is your gig then you can't go wrong with the Vector, I'm a power junky so when the viper goes down the road someday I'll be going 4 banger.

Yeah, my bad! You'll have to forgive me on that one, I think I was doing a little too much ;):D !
