Debating on rebuilding my 98 xtc 700. Has 115 115 110 compression and I want to do the head gasket mod. Runs great as is but not sure about the mod.. If I do put new pistons and rings should I get the cylinders redone or should they be fine? Speedo stopped working long ago. Guessing it has maybe 8 or 9k miles on it

I would think the head gasket mod will bump up that compression but with that many miles I would do new rings. I am sure your plating will be fine.

Rings ....if even that. Speedo side bearing on the driveshaft is probably ready to let loose.

LOL, it shears the speedo key. Easy fix.

You’ll know if it needs replating when you take it apart, look for scuffs/scratches on the cylinder walls. I just had mine re-plated.

Uh, don’t take that bearing lightly.... it can wreck stuff in a hurry...
